Modern Foreign Languages
We aim to encourage all pupils to have an appreciation of other languages and cultures and, as such, consider the knowledge of modern foreign languages (MFL) to be essential to our children’s education.
We provide French lessons in each year group based on a progressive MFL scheme designed to ensure that new learning is introduced incrementally, applied, mastered, and then developed further.
In order to develop our children’s love of French, we include aspects of French culture and geography through our teaching in order to ensure that they have a context for their learning. By the end of Year 6, we aim for children to be able to speak, write, listen to and read a sentence in French independently, with knowledge of how the verb tense is formed.
