History
At Greenway, we see the teaching of history as an opportunity for the children to develop their understanding of the development of the world around them, through a rich and varied curriculum.
Our history curriculum explores different time periods in specific year groups to provide learning opportunities that are exciting and engaging and develop children’s curiosity.
Our aim is to provide children with essential and transferable skills that will enhance their knowledge. Providing opportunities for children to think about, discuss and evaluate aspects from the past will expand their understanding and encourage their own lines of questions.
Our teaching of history aims to incorporate mastery skills and develop oracy through learning and applying key vocabulary, verbalising explanations, and sharing ideas with peers.
By the time the children finish Year 6, we want our children to have a sound understanding of chronology and the ability to apply this to a range of historical events, the skill to interpret and investigate a range of historical evidence, and be able to ask and interpret questions.
